CLASSES OFFERED

BALLET

Known as the ABC’s of dance. Ballet is the basis from which all dance forms are derived. Classical ballet technique and movements are instructed. The strictest of all disciplines, all ballet students are required to be in black leotards and pink tights with no covering garments over them. Hair is to be work in a bun and off the face. Split sole Ballet shoes are required for this class.

 

 

JAZZ

Free form of movement and styling that consists of basic Jazz techniques. Various leaps and turns are some of the many steps instructed. Students must be in dance attire. Leotards, tights, sports bra, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable. Split sole jazz shoes are required.

 

 

TAP

Movements consisting of sounds through Tap shoes. Basic terminology and technique are instructed. Students must be in dance attire. Leotards, tights, sports bra, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable. Split sole Tap shoes are required for our Beginner & Intermediate students and Capezio K540 Tap shoes are required for our Advanced students. Please make sure that shoes are true to size and not left with room for growth. This is not only very frustrating to your child when trying to duplicate sounds but very dangerous as well.

 

 

LYRICAL

This form of dance combines Ballet and Jazz disciplines and is interpreted through expressive movements to soft music that is not classical. For this reason, all students enrolled in Lyrical must also be enrolled in Ballet class in order to be able to participate in this class. Students must be in dance attire. Leotards, tights, sports bra, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable. Footless tights should be worn so knees are always covered. Dance Paws or FootUndeez are to be worn on the feet. Please ask for assistance when purchasing these shoes as they do not run true to size.

 

 

POINTE

Consists of ballet techniques done on Pointe shoes. Students must be a minimum of 12 years old with at least 3 years of Ballet experience and be tested by the instructor or director to make sure ankle strength is sufficient. All students registering for this class must also be enrolled in a Ballet class. Black leotards and pink tights are to be worn with no covering garments. Hair must be in a bun away from the face. Please speak with the instructor before purchasing Pointe shoes.

 

HIP-HOP

A style of dance that has been developed over the years from a street style of movement. This is the dancing you see in various music videos today. Students must be in dance attire. Sweat pants, t-shirts and active wear are acceptable as well as dance shorts and dance pants. Hip-Hop sneakers are required. Street shoes may not be worn.

 

CONTEMPORARY

This genre combines lyrical and modern techniques. For this reason, a Ballet class must be taken in conjunction with this class so students have a background of basic technique while learning jumps, partnering and other modern dance concepts. Students must be in dance attire. Leotards, sports bra, dance shorts and dance pants are acceptable. Students are allowed to wear footless tights so their knees are always covered. Dance Paws or FootUndeez can be used for this class.

 

ACRO

Is the performance of extraordinary human feats of balance, agility and motor coordination. Cartwheels, back walkovers & handsprings are some of the feats taught. Students must be in dance attire and barefoot. Mats will be used during instruction as well as at recital until the instructor determines these tricks can be performed on their own.

POM

Pom dance is an energetic and dynamic style of dance that places emphasis on precise and synchronized arm movements, formations, jumps and skills. It is characterized by its use of poms, which dancers hold in their hands throughout the routine.

LEAP & TURN

A specialty class open to all dancers. Class will focus on developing the skills necessary to perform a variety of turns and leaps. Enrollment in Jazz or Ballet is highly encouraged. This is a technique based class only, which will not have a routine in the recital. 

SENIOR TAP

This Tap class is geared towards our "Baby Boomers" ages 55+ as a way to get out and move while having fun learning basic tap steps & applying them to building a Broadway style routine. Little Dancer Program

COMBO CLASSES

These classes are geared towards our “Little Dancers” ages 3 – 5. Each one hour class is broken up into two disciplines: Ballet/Tap, Ballet/Jazz or Ballet/Hip Hop (please specify when registering). Students will learn basic instruction in all disciplines combined with some fun dance games to help retain interest. We also add different themes to our classes such as Dance Princess & Pajama Party all while incorporating dance into their lesson. Only one form of dance will be performed in the recital. Ballet/Jazz students will need leotard and tights with Ballet shoes. Ballet/Tap students will need leotards and tights with Ballet and Tap shoes. We also recommend you purchase a dance bag as students should put their Ballet shoes on first and their shoes will be changed during class. Please put your child’s name or initials in all shoes and on their dance bag.

 

TUMBLING

These classes are designated for our “Little Dancers” ages 3 – 5. This class includes beginner gymnastics, acrobatic movement and also fun dance games to help retain the interest of the dancers. Students should be dressed in athletic clothing that they are free to move in.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

**All classes are once a week for one hour in length. All students must be in dance attire that is fitted and not baggy. No street clothes are to be worn. Please refer to specific class descriptions for more information. Hair should always be up off the face and neck. For your safety, as well as others, no jewelry is to be worn. We recommend purchasing a Dance Bag to keep all shoes and outer garments. Please put your child’s name or initials in all shoes.**
